Global private equity fund manager Warburg Pincus has agreed to acquire an 80 percent stake in India-based education finance company Avanse Financial Services from diversified holding company Wadhawan Global Capital. As part of the transaction, Warburg plans to make an INR3 billion (approximately USD43 million) primary capital injection in the company to support its growth. Avanse provides loans primarily to students in higher education programs in India and overseas, as well as to educational institutions. The transaction is subject to closing conditions and expected to be completed later this year. Separately, Warburg Pincus has invested USD100 million in China-based online B2B trading platform Yijiupi. The company plans to use the funds to expand its geographic presence, introduce additional consumer goods categories, and improve its technology.
