Mediterrania Capital Partners Invests in Groupe Scolaire René Descartes; to Invest in Université Internationale de Casablanca (MENA)

Africa-focused private equity firm Mediterrania Capital Partners has acquired an undisclosed stake in Tunisia-based private education institution Groupe Scolaire René Descartes (GSRD) through Mediterrania Capital II. GSRD, which provides French and Tunisian programs for pre-primary school through college, plans to partner with Mediterrania to expand its current facilities and develop new sites in key locations in Tunisia and Algeria. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Separately, Mediterrania and Africa-focused private equity firm Development Partners International (DPI) will support the acquisition of Morocco-based private higher education provider Université Internationale de Casablanca by KMR Holding Pédagogique, a Morocco-based education platform backed by the two firms. Following the acquisition, KMR—which also owns Université Privée de Marrakech—will serve more than 7,500 students in seven fields of study across four campuses in Morocco and Senegal. Financial details of the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approvals, were not disclosed.
