Rory Ord
Head of Fundamentals, RisCura
Rory regularly consults to institutions on private equity related matters including monitoring structures and risk areas. Rory launched the first ever South African Private Equity Performance Report with SAVCA in 2011, authored the Bright Africa report on African Private Equity in 2013, as well as the first report on investor attitudes to African private equity in 2014. He is a regular speaker at Private Equity conferences and has trained pension fund trustees on private equity in 6 African countries. He also guest lectures on private equity at the University of Cape Town. Rory is a chartered accountant and previously worked at Deloitte in the UK and South Africa.
Daniel Schoneveld
Principal, Hamilton Lane
Daniel is based in London. He is a Principal and a member of the Business Development Group of Hamilton Lane, responsible for institutional investors in Europe, Middle East and Africa. He has more than 20 years of experience in the institutional investment world. Prior to joining Hamilton Lane, Daniel was a Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley Capital International in London. He was responsible for European asset owners and investment consultants focusing on investment risk management, benchmarking and asset allocation. Prior to that, he worked as an institutional advisor at the German bank, Metzler. He also spent more than eight years at the advisory and brokerage firm, Hall International Partners, servicing large institutional investors. Daniel started his professional career as a research analyst at the Dutch bank, ABN Amro, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Daniel received an M.B.A. from Henley Management College, UK and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Finance from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
Ngalaah Chuphi
Partner, Ethos Private Equity (Pty) Limited
Ngalaah Chuphi joined Ethos in 1999 and leads the firm’s sub-Saharan Africa strategy. Until recently, he also headed up Ethos’ investor relations activities and played a critical role in the successful raising of Ethos Funds V and VI. His fifteen-year track record with Ethos has included direct involvement in five portfolio companies where he played significant roles in business building, particularly in areas of strategy formulation and business restructuring in the engineering, franchising, retail and financial services sectors. Ngalaah’s deal origination, execution and value add capabilities are complemented by an extensive business network across Sub-Saharan Africa which has facilitated the progressing of Ethos’ strategy in those markets. His portfolio activities are backed by over ten years of prior international management consulting and project finance experience in several countries.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Queen's University (Canada) and an MBA in Finance from Pepperdine University (USA). He is also a founding member of EMPEA’s Africa Council.
