Joyce Berman is the Director of Membership for EMPEA where she oversees the recruitment, retention, and engagement of the 5,000 global members of EMPEA, represented by 300 member firms worldwide. Her work focuses on two goals, ensuring the ongoing vitality and integration of new members into the organization and strengthening the current member experience.
Joyce Berman also currently handles membership engagement for the Association for Private Capital Investment in Latin America (LAVCA), coordinating onboarding for new members. Previously, Joyce worked at the Public Affairs Council based in Washington DC and Brussels, leading a new membership engagement initiative, where she activated, advanced and enlarged the organization, representing 9,000 public affairs corporate and association professionals. During her career, Joyce has served in a variety of leadership posts focused on development, marketing, and civic engagement, including directing a Children’s Museum, managing donor relations for a $15 million college scholarship program, working for a US Congressman and serving as the first press secretary for the Democratic Leadership Council, organizing media coverage for the presidential debate cycle.
Also, Joyce has provided marketing and communications leadership for several successful campaigns, the most recent securing preservation of a WPA-built historic baseball stadium listed on the National Register of Historic Places and its site.
A Michigan native, Joyce holds a B.A. in history from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She is married to a terrific guy and has two wonderful grown children.
