Alison Kieler is Vice President and Head of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) matters at Emerging Capital Partners (ECP), an African-focused private equity fund manager that has raised over $3.0 billion for investment on the continent. Ms. Kieler works closely with Anglophone and Francophone deal teams and investee companies across Africa to incorporate ESG considerations and international best practice throughout the investment process, beginning with deal screening. Ms. Kieler manages ESG due diligence processes for prospective investments inhouse and with specialist consultation and works with investee companies to develop action plans to mitigate ESG risk, incorporate ESG into business strategy, and enhance ESG and development impact reporting. Ms. Kieler also oversees public relations opportunities and efforts to streamline and standardize data collection processes.
Prior to joining ECP in 2015, Ms. Kieler worked for a start-up fund manager investing in small and medium enterprises in Eurasia. Previously, Ms. Kieler worked in international development while living in the US, Georgia, Tunisia, and Tanzania. Ms. Kieler served as a business development and community engagement Peace Corps Volunteer in Georgia, where she also designed, monitored, and assessed development projects addressing a variety of socioeconomic issues as a Program Officer at World Vision. Ms. Kieler began her career with the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She obtained an MA in international development and finance in emerging markets from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and graduated cum laude from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s in political science and international studies.
