Views from the Field: Assessing the State of Venture Capital in Emerging Markets

Emerging markets (EM) venture capital (VC) activity—in terms of number of deals completed and total capital invested, and as a percentage of overall EM private investment activity—reached record highs in 2014 and showed no signs of slowing down in the first half of 2015. Fund managers completed 472 investments and deployed US$4.5 billion in emerging markets via VC deals in 1H 2015, corresponding to increases of 40% and 23%, respectively, compared to 1H 2014.

To further assess the state of the VC industry in emerging markets, what VC trends investors should be paying attention to and what challenges lie ahead for this stage of investing, EMPEA recently reached out to relevant members to share their views on VC in the markets in which they are active.
