Sara Cousins is EMPEA’s Member Services Associate, working within the Membership Department. Sara provides support to EMPEA’s membership base and guides member applicants through the application and onboarding process. She also works in assessing the engagement levels of EMPEA’s various members and identifying new methods by which to maximize member engagement.
As an undergraduate, Sara served as Head International Ambassador for the University of Pittsburgh’s Global Links program. In this role, she led students in planning and executing events for international students, with the intention of aiding them in their acclimation to the U.S. and fostering a friendly and supportive community. She has experience working and interning in a boutique law firm, a benevolent non-profit organization and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She has worked as an Arabic Tutor for Global LT, a language and relocation services company. Sara studied Egyptian Colloquial Arabic in Cairo, Egypt through an intensive Arabic studies program hosted by the American Middle East Institute. She also studied Modern Standard Arabic and Jordanian Colloquial Arabic in Amman, Jordan through the U.S. State Department Critical Language Scholarship program. She began studying Arabic at the University of Pittsburgh, completing coursework in Modern Standard, Egyptian Colloquial, Levantine and Moroccan Arabic. Sara graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in April 2012 with a B.A. in Economics and a Global Studies Certificate with a concentration in Global Economy and Global Governance and a regional focus in the Middle East and North Africa.
